2024 UPDATES
Operation La Paz has accomplished a lot over the past year in La Paz, Honduras and completed several projects which have benefitted the children and families of the community.
1. Two big projects that were supported by Operation La Paz were the Rotary grants which are now providing clean water (a new deep well in Cane) and proper sanitation (water filters, pilas- which are used for water storage - and latrines) for a small community in Guachipilin. The projects are now near completion and the well in Cane is complete. Operation La Paz was able to participate in the the delivery of the water filters to Guachipilin, and helping to construct a pila in January of 2024. This project is improving the lives of many people!
2. Julian Kinder School: Construction of the new pavilion to provide a shaded area for outside activities
3. Cervantes High School: The teachers of the Nursing & Bilingual Programs requested Clinical teaching tools for the nursing students. And thirty new computers were purchased for the Bilingual classrooms.
4. Health & Hygiene lessons for adults and children: Hygiene & First Aid Kits, including toothpaste & toothbrushes, bleach, laundry detergent etc. were provided for 87 household in Guachipilin. We hired nurses from La Paz to present first aid, nutrition & hygiene programs to the parents. Lessons were also taught to the children about brushing their teeth, washing their hands and mosquito bite prevention. Dengue has been a serious health concern for the people of La Paz, and even more so this year.
5. Food distribution: bags of food staples were given to 221 families in January 2024 in Guachipilin and in La Paz. In June, another 100 bags were distributed to families at remote schools in Santa Maria, La Paz, as well as the Victor Gonzalez school (which was built by Operation La Paz). 100 bags of mangos were given to students at other schools throughout La Paz.
